Cold Showers.

Read Time: 53 Seconds.

There is no better wake-up call than a cold shower. Forget coffee. This writer stumbled upon “cold shower therapy” a few years ago. Mr. Joel Runyon’s Tedx talk convinced me to give it a go, at least for 30 days. 30 days turned into a whole year of cold showers. As Mr. Runyon explains, cold showers are something you keep returning to.

The main takeaway for this writer from cold showers is improved focus and concentration in day to day living. From work to leisure, being in the moment is now easier to attain. The benefits from cold showers are many. You owe it to yourself to find out what they are. As Mr. Runyan says, “Take a cold shower for five minutes, choose to be uncomfortable, and see what happens:”

  • Overall improved sense of well-being
  • Enhanced physical recovery time
  • Benefits for both skin and hair
  • Reduced pain/inflammation
  • Stronger immune system
  • Improved circulation
  • Mood Booster
  • Fat Burning
  • Better sleep
  • Resilience

  1. John, Thanks for posting. I’m a fan of cold showers (especially in the summer) and to recover from a hot yoga workout. One thing I’d like to note is starting your shower with hot water after a hard workout helps open up your pores and wash away bacteria much better than cold water. Transitioning to a cold shower after a few minutes of hot water can often be the better practice depending on your situation. Most people focus on a cold shower in the a.m. but the benefits of a cold shower before bed, as you noted, are equally beneficial…
